After extensive research into his family tree, Sheep has made a remarkable discovery. His ancestress, Aaltje, lived in Delft in the seventeenth century and was already dyeing wool there.
Whether Johannes Vermeer ever visited her cannot be historically confirmed with certainty. However, Sheep considers it telling that his paintings feature a suspicious amount of ultramarine, ochre, and beautiful light.
In Aaltje’s studio starts with Vermeer, but doesn’t just stop there. We look around a room with pigment bowls, wool, earthenware, linen, wood, paper, daylight, and shadow. On the table lies a letter and presumably Vermeer’s cheese sandwich. The club colours remain a secret for now.
So this isn’t a literal painting-to-yarn translation. Vermeer is the entrance; Aaltje’s studio is the collection. Everything that logically belongs in that world is invited to join in.
As always, everything is hand-dyed in the S7oRS studio. Small variations between skeins or sets are part of the charm.
